Folk Art

I often find amazing color combinations that I am immediately drawn too.  These can range from modestly subdued to boldly vibrant.  I have piles of color swatches for art projects and home design ideas.  I have always been attracted to folk art so it comes as no surprise that many of my clippings are from far way places or inspired by the life and designs of the indigenous people that in habit these exotic locals.

Color in Nature.

Obviously nature lends itself well to color choices and combinations.  It seems only natural that an ocean of green will refresh and the mind.  This is the bamboo growing in front of my house.  Just staring up at it transports me from the traffic addled street that roars past my home, to a quiet hillside some where in the Far East

These trees grow on the hillside in my backyard.  They're like weeds, they take little water and seem to pop up everywhere and grow quickly.  They are disidgous so during the winter they lose all of their leaves.  Joseph hates this, but I think it adds an air of craggy, mystery to the hillside.  It makes it feel like winter when you look out the window, something you don' really get to feel in Southern California.

Plus, I love it in the Spring when they first start to show signs of their new leaf buds.  With a little hue shifting on this picture I captured the perfect combonation of chilling, loneliness and tranquility.

Even in Nature you find the lovely saturations of pure femininity.  This is one of my favorite plants that growing on my property.  I love the deep, neutral tones of the leaves in contrast with the shocking pink flowers.

The bright green color and texture of a fern leaf.
